NAIROBI, KENYA (5 July 2012) - A new global study mapping human-animal diseases like tuberculosis (TB) and Rift Valley fever finds that an “unlucky” 13 zoonoses are responsible for 2.4 billion cases of human illness and 2.2 million deaths per year. The vast majority occur in low- and middle-income countries.

It was precisely the extraordinary results achieved by the Jamaican that spurred many scholars to try figuring out how many possible improvements we will see from now on, including in the next Olympic Games.

The effectiveness of the pandemic H1N1 influenza vaccination program, introduced in Scotland in October 2009, has been assessed by a team of researchers from different Scottish and French institutions, coordinated by Dr. Colin Simpson, from the University of Edinburgh. The results of this assessment has been published in the June issue of Lancet.

Is Aspirin better than anticoagulants?
Low doses of aspirin reduce by 40% the recurrence of venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, affecting 130,000 people every year in Italy, with a high mortality rate (30,000 per year) and an equally high incidence of disability through the post-phlebitis syndrome (ulcers, varicose veins). To demonstrate the effectiveness of aspirin is a study on the New England Journal of Medicine conducted by Cecilia Becattini and Giancarlo Agnelli, of the University of Perugia.
