The opening of the 9th session of the FENS came with an unexpected surprise. After the organizer committee, represented by Marina Bentivoglio, made the mandatory honors, the ceremony continued with the “Fanfara del 1° commando areonautica”. Their participation enriched this first day of conference with beautiful music, ranging from the masterpieces of Puccini, Verdi, Modugno and Morricone, a participation that resulted in being just as much unexpected as appreciated. Countries in the WHO European Region with populations under 1 million – Andorra, Cyprus, Iceland, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro and San Marino – will take part in a two-day meeting convened by WHO/Europe and hosted by San Marino. The aim is to foster the implementation of the Health 2020 framework in such countries by improving cooperation between them.

Italy joins the ESS project

Italy will join the ESS Project (European Spallation Source), the multidisciplinary research center, intented to be by far the most powerful neutron source in the world, almost 30 times brighter than the others, with capabilities that far exceed those of the SNS (Oak Ridge, USA), J-PARC (Japan) and the UK’s own ISIS facility. Italy will participate with the Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR), the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN), the National Research Council (CNR) and Elettra Synchrotron Trieste.

The multinational media and information firm Thomson Reuters carried out an analysis of scientific production in the last eleven years, in order to identify the world’s most influential scientific minds. This work was based on data from the Web of Science platform, produced and maintained by Thomson Reuters’ experts, which gathers citation indexes from scientific literature – journals, conference proceedings, abstract, etcetera – grouped based on the related discipline.
