90 years of CNR: a celebration for the young and the future

Today, June 25th, the National Council of Research (CNR) celebrates the ninetieth anniversary of its foundation. 'Challenges. The stimulus of research, the incentive towards innovation' is the title of the inaugural day of the celebration of the main Italian scientific institution. Such a birthday will take place in the presence of the President of the Repubblic, Giorgio Napolitano, and of authorities like the President of the Senate, Pietro Grasso, the President of the Lazio Region, Nicola Zingaretti, some members of the Government and the Parliament, and representatives of the scientific community.

Besides celebrations, the eventi will also be an occasion to relaunch research policy in Italy - as highlighted by Pietro Greco on L'Unità - following Vito Volterra's example, who first dreamt up and realized the project of CNR.

Here is the schedule of the day, which will occur at the main home of CNR, Piazzale Aldo Moro 7, Roma:

Diary from FENS 2014 - Day Four

The fourth day of the FENS has been characterized by the controversial absence of Yoshiki Sasai, whose participation to the conference was in the schedule but it was very recently cancelled. It seemed to me that, as the proverbial elephant in the room, all of the attendants knew about it but few commented. Although no official communications were given, it would be easy to guess that her absence might be connected to the recent retraction of her paper by Nature. As this particular piece of news reached many researchers over the last few weeks,
