In Europe, people aged more than 50 years old are about 150 million. Prevention, care and cure regarding aged people are core concerns for European Commission. Among the chronic pathologies, osteoarthritis is the second disease in Italy. It has high prevalence in the population older than 65 years, but the prevalence in younger age groups appears to be on the increase.

The epidemics of heart failure (HF) represents a challenge for the National Health System: despite advances over the past 30 years, the prognosis for patients who are admitted to hospital with HF remains poor, with a 5 year mortality that is nearly 50%, worse than that for patients with breast or colon cancer. The incidence of HF is dramatically increasing at an unanticipated speed emphasizing the need for novel strategies aiming at the identification of the cause of this devastating disease.

The news was officially announced almost simultaneously with the International Women's Day: the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (Unoosa) new Director is the Italian astrophysics Simonetta Di Pippo. For the first time our country is at the top of the body responsible for the programs of the UN to promote international cooperation in the space sector and cut this milestone thanks to the extraordinary professionalism of a woman.
