CSMON-LIFE: conservation of biodiversity and citizen science

The project CSMON-LIFE aims at contributing to a new strategic Citizen Science approach in monitoring biodiversity and improving the policies for its conservation in Italy. CSMON-LIFE is one of the 47 Italian projects which were funded in the framework of the LIFE+ programme by the European Commission.
CSMON-LIFE, coordinated by the Department of Life Sciences of the University of Trieste, will promote an active cooperation among researches, policy makers and citizens, as far as monitoring, discovery and conservation of biodiversity are convened.

Closing the gap between brain and computer

Our brain could resemble a circuit: 80 billion neurons and perhaps a hundred trillion synapses are interconnected within a complex organ. One of the greatest challenges facing 21st century science is brain whole structures and functions disclosure. While emerging technology are spreading in every field, Europe suggested to associate neurobiological studies to technological knowledge and future improvements.

When excellence comes home

Two aspects remain etched firmly after a talk with Andrea Lunardi and Graziano Martello, two "made in Italy" brains that have decided to return to work in Italy after years of research abroad. First, go abroad tout court is not an essential step; the difference is choosing centres of excellence abroad. Second: a PhD in Italy is a great resource, not to be missed, as long as you choose a good group to work with.
